Body odour is an unpleasant smell the body gives off as a result of poor hygienic condition, harbored dirt in enclosed areas of the body, bacterial infection, unhealthy body conditions etc.
Despite our daily activities, it is important we always take care of our bodies. Keeping our bodies clean is essential because, our body is the domicile that God created for our soul, and it is also what people firstly comes in contact with, hence our odour can create a lasting impression about us.
Body Odour Analogy
“All stained individuals are not always dirty and might not have body odour, but all dirty individuals are always stained and must have body odour. “
To clarify the above statement,if someone wears a clean jersey to play football, the jersey will be stained as a result of tackles from the opposing team, but it will not be smelling on the field of play because,it was cleaned at the initial state before the football match.
Conversely, if another person wears a dirty jersey to a football match which has been worn severally without washing,it will definitely stink and can even make them win the match. This is true because players will not want to tackle that dirty footballer with body odour caused by wearing dirty jersey.
Causes Of Body Odour And Types.
This is passed on from parents to their offspring. Odours under this category are not usually caused by poor hygienic condition or other similar conditions as earlier mentioned. Although, people with hereditary odour have little or no control over it. But this can still be minimized if taken proper care of. I know of a family where everyone had similar body odour but as the children grew older, they use deodorant to suppress it and now they are good.
Eating too much proteinaceous food can make our sweat contains more ammonia and urea which causes body odour when it comes in contact with bacteria outside the body. Also eating plenty of raw garlic can causes the body to smell bad.
This is a situation where our foot smells as a result of wearing dirty socks or damped footwears.
Our clothes should be kept very clean and properly dried to avoid odour caused by wearing dirty or damped clothes. Please do not wear your clothes including under wears twice, wear once and wash.
Pubic And Mouth Odour.
Hair in pubic regions should be shaved regularly to avoid bacteria growing beneath the hairs. Just as wild animals live in forest, also bacteria live in unshaven public hairs, thus causing our bodies to stink if not taken into cognizance.
Our mouth, especially our tongue, should also be kept clean daily to avoid mouth odour. Brush your teeth at least twice daily to keep a clean and fresh breathe.
Health Malfunction /Conditioned Body Odour
This occurs when any part of our body fails to function properly. This malfunctioning can be caused by cancer, drugs used in treating ailments, operation stitches not properly removed and taken care of etc.
Body Odour Remedies
Hereditary odour can firstly be minimized by bathing regularly. Also,an individual with this kind of odour can check regularly with a dermatologist, who can prescribe appropriate body cream and deodorants that would help suppress the odour.
For Nursing mothers, kindly ensure that you bath newly birthed babies thoroughly to avoid such babies having body odours later.
Eating a particular type of food(or spices) excessively and persistently can cause the body to ooze out the smell of such food e.g Garlic. As such, ensure you eat food(or spices) moderately. You can visit a nutritionist who will advice you on what (or what not) to eat to avoid this unpleasant odour. Also eating more of fruits and vegetables helps to keep a healthy body. To avoid laundry odour; never wear damped clothes, don’t wear clothes that are already drenched by rain( if you were soaked in rain, ensure you put off the cloth immediately) , make sure you don’t wear a particular cloth more than once .
Gender Comparative Analyses On Body Odour.
In this part of the world,it has been observed that males tend to have body odour than females. Obviously, this is true because. it is relatively believed that ladies tend to be more hygiene conscious than the male counterparts;especially when it relates to body hygiene. Also, ladies don’t usually engage in some hectic jobs that requires a lot of physical stress and energy. Jobs like Bricklaying,Bus conductor, Diggers etc are dominant among the male gender and we hardly find ladies doing such job. As a result of the demands of such jobs, those that do them are easily exposed to dirt, scorching sun, physical stress etc. which ultimately has effect on their body odour if not properly taken care of.
To suppress the effect of body odour, I strongly recommend that people, especially the guys doing the aforementioned works should bathe regularly (at least twice a day) and also use deodorant or antiperspirant. A good example of a deodorant is Nivea,Rexona etc. These antiperspirants will help reduce the effect of sweat to bacteria reaction which causes body to stink.
IMPORTANT TIPS TO AVOID BODY ODOUR
During menstruation, female should bathe more often.
Couples should ensure they bath immediately after sex.
True Life Story Of Body Odour.
It was a rainy day and a particular staff of tduwempublishers was drenched while coming to the office. On getting to the office, the AC was not working unfortunately, the clothes he wore dried on him and this combined with the sweat on his body. By the time work closed, his clothe was already oozing an offensive and unpleasant smell of which he was also perceiving. He was not comfortable with this, so he avoided staying close to people just so they won’t perceive the malodorous odour.
At 6pm that same day, while on his way to church, he met a friend. They discussed for a while and before they parted ways, the friend told him to extend his regards to everybody but he should not kill them with odour. Obviously, this statement broke his heart and thus affected his self esteem.
On arrival to the church, he decided to sit at the back where no body was sitting. This was a deliberate act to avoid people perceiving the smell from his body. But as he was sitting, an usher came to tell him to join the others where they were seated.
The odour from him stunk louder to the extent that a lady seated next to him advised him to use deodorant in order to smell good.
Lessons from the story
From the story above ,the friend who told him not to kill people with body smell ,did it in an unwise manner ,thereby making him have low self esteem. But the second person who told the subject to use deodorant, did it with wisdom. Please let’s not embarrass people with body odour.
No matter how tasking our daily activities are, body odour is not an excuse. We should keep our body, clothes and health checked at all times to avoid the embarrassment body odour could cause.
In conclusion, most people with body odour don’t know they have it unless they are systematically told by their love ones. Let us be our brothers keeper by telling them about the odour that comes from their body. But this should be done by applying wisdom. You can do this by buying perfume, body spray or help them pack their dirty clothes out for washing.if you are bold enough you can tell them.
NOTE: Everyone on earth has his or her odour from the body as a result of daily activities, but our ability to suppress it makes the difference .The blind uses the body odour combine with voice to identify people closer to them.
